This living room had great bones but wasn't quite living up to its potential. The accessories didn't fit the scale of the room and the heavy sectional dominated the room. Several changes were implemented giving new life to the space! It turned out beautifully, take a look!
We started by painting the walls a nice cool grey. This lightened the space and created a sense of calmness. An area rug grounds the sectional and helps it flow in the space. Removing the heavy side tables also help keeps the sectional from overpowering the room. New pillows added much needed texture and softness.
Grasscloth was applied to the back of the bookshelves adding depth and texture. This also allows the new accessories to 'pop'. Gathering photos in a collage keeps it clean and simple. Adding artwork in the built-ins adds visual interest and color. Keep the mantel simple when you have a mounted TV above the fireplace. Too many accessories can be overwhelming when watching TV.
Another look at the grasscloth...stunning!
Removing the two Cherry corner cabinets allows the wall behind the sofa to become an important element in the room. When you have built-ins in a room try to keep all other accessories minimal. The cabinets were holding small treasures but too many can become overwhelming.
On one side we placed a small bench that can be moved out for additional seating. The artwork fits perfectly with the decor of the room. On the other side we placed a beautiful cabinet that provides extra storage. A gorgeous lamp and mirror really complete the look!
